Today as I listen to people talk they seem to be consumed by the word, “happiness.” They seem to think that if I am happy then all will be well. The Bible says the words that we need to seek are, “joy and peace.” When I have joy and peace it is not because of some favorable happening in my life. To have joy and peace I must have a right relationship with God because joy and peace come from God.
Joy that comes from God in a time of sickness gives comfort; or in a time of lack or poverty God’s joy in me reminds me of how rich I am in Christ Jesus; for it is the understanding of who God is, that He loves me and will never leave me. God’s peace comes when I realize that this is not my true home in this dying world, but rather I have the true home with my Father that will last for eternity.
So if you are looking for happiness you will not find joy or peace. But if you go after God’s joy and peace then you will be able to go through anything this world can throw at you, and not be shaken.
