Daily Devotional

Son, never be ashamed to tell anyone about Me, but tell them about the future life I have promised to all who would believe. Be known as one who correctly handles My words of truth, for My words cannot be chained. Guard this truth that I have entrusted to you. Teach it to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass it on to others. Endure suffering as a good soldier and remember that soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life. If you die for Me, you will live with Me. If you endure hardship for Me, you will reign with Me. If you deny Me, I will deny you. If you are unfaithful, I will remain faithful.

So go in the strength I have given you and be ready to suffer for the sake of My truth. Use the power of My Holy Spirit who lives within you. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on Me with pure hearts, and be patient with difficult people. Gentle words are a tree of life, so think carefully before speaking. Commit your plans to Me and your plans will succeed. Those who listen to My instruction will prosper; those who trust Me will be joyful.

Son, I have spoken to your leaders again and again, and they refuse to listen to Me. I told them to turn from their wicked ways, and start doing what is right; to stop worshiping the gods of this world so that your country might have peace. But, they would not listen to Me and they show no signs of fear or repentance. Therefore, I will refuse to listen or answer when they call to Me; for I will send upon Your country all the disasters I have said.

Lord, I am not ashamed of You or Your book of truth. For I know You and trust You, and I am sure that You are able to guard me and my family until the day You return. Help me to never have these types of attitudes towards You, “I thought You should have done this.” “I expected You to do this for me.” “Why should I wait for You any longer?” I will simply go and do what You have told me to do. Thank You, that You know me, and that Your unfailing love and faithfulness made atonement for all my sins.

Daily Devotional

Son, some of My children have put their trust in Me, and soon people of this world will see the peace and prosperity I will give them. These children will use this prosperity for good, and will be generous to those in need and always ready to share with others. This will cause them to build on a good foundation, and they will experience what true life is.

It is pleasant to see My promises come true, but it is foolish to think that you alone can attain them. People who think like this become corrupt, and have turned their backs to the truth. They think godliness is just a way to become wealthy. They long to be rich, and therefore have opened themselves up to temptation and many foolish and harmful desires that will lead to destruction. Remember, the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil, and some of My people who crave money have wandered from the truth and pierced themselves with many sorrows. So pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance and gentleness. Do not trust in money, which is so unreliable.

Lord, waiting for what You promised is hard for me, for I long for Your promise to us to be fulfilled. I know there is a path before me that seems right, but I need to carefully consider all my steps and ask You which path to take.

Kingdom Thinking – Part 20

Matthew 3:1-3 “In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the Desert of Judea and saying, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.’ This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: ‘A voice of one calling in the desert, “Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’”’

Kingdom thinking will want to see revival; that of bringing people into the Body of Christ and a transformation that puts God’s people in places of responsibility in order to bring change into the systems of our world.

There are three words that I hear being bandied about today that need some clarification: reformation, revival and transformation. The question in my mind is: How are these words being used and clarified in the New Testament? What comes first; revival, reformation or transformation?

Perhaps we first need the definition of each.

Reformation: Improvement in the existing form or condition of institutions or practices

Revival (one definition is): Bringing into activity and prominence

Transformation (probably the best definition is the word): change

However, when it comes to the Word of God I find that it gives us a better description of each. For example, in our text above (Matthew 3:1-3) we have John the Baptist coming on the scene. What is he doing? It says that he is a voice in the wilderness: “Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.”  In other words, to me Biblically speaking “reformation” is preparing the way for the Lord; telling people what Jesus Christ did for them when He came the first time and that He’s coming back with His Kingdom. How we need to pray for preachers to be raised up to prepare the way for the Lord.

Martin Lloyd Jones for many years was the pastor of the Westminster Chapel in London. He said that the best definition of revival is: God passing by.”

He used the passage in Exodus 33:21-23 “Then the Lord said, ‘There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen.’”

Transformation is change. Not only is the person changed, but society changes as well.

When we read the Gospels what do we find? First, we have John the Baptist and what is he doing? He is preparing the way for the Lord. Secondly, we then have Jesus arriving on the scene and what do we find? He passes by and when He passed by what happens? There is transformation in people.

Wherever He passes by there is life, there is newness, and there is change. There was a Zacchaeus paying back fourfold of what he took dishonestly, leprous people being healed, dead people being raised to life, people being encouraged everywhere as the Kingdom of God was preached and spread wherever the Lord passed by.

When we look back over the past 2000 years we see many powerful kingdoms that have come and gone into the dustbin of history, but the Kingdom of God is spreading and to fill the whole earth.

Several years ago I was in Dubai for a conference with some of the workers in that part of the world. Listening to the testimonies I kept hearing the phrase, “back to Jerusalem.” What was interesting to me was that in Acts 2:14 Peter stood up and preached in Jerusalem and the Gospel began to spread. What I was hearing in Dubai after almost 2000 years is that the Gospel has circumnavigated the world and is now coming back to Jerusalem where it started.

Jesus said: “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14) Kingdom thinking will want to hasten that day; the day Jesus returns.  So, “look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.” 2 Peter 3:12

Daily Devotional

BE ENCOURAGED!!

Son, be encouraged in your faith. Be encouraged in your troubles, because you will always have troubles in this life, but your love for Me, and one another will grow and overflow. By living this way, it pleases Me, and it encourages others to do so.

Keep this on your mind for it will encourage you. Soon I will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel and the trumpet call of God. Those Christians who have died will rise from their graves, and then those who are still alive will be caught up in the clouds to meet Me in the air. Then you will be with Me forever. So encourage each other with these words, and keep it in your mind that this day will come unexpectedly. So be on your guard, stay alert and be clearheaded; for soon you will live with Me forever! So encourage each other and build each other up with this promise.

Be encouraged at what awaits the leaders of your country; for they have destroyed and scattered the very ones they were expected to care for. All they do is evil and abuse what power they have. They do not listen to My prophets, and My heart is broken. They fill people with futile hopes, and they make up everything they do, and then say, “Don’t worry! No harm will come your way!”  They should be asking each other, “How would I answer this problem? What is My view about this issue.” Because they speak of false hopes and try to get My people to forget Me, I am against these smooth-tongued politicians and My judgment is coming.

Son, test everything that is said by these politicians, but trust Me with all your heart. Do not depend on your own understanding, but seek My will in all you do. I will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear Me and turn away from evil. Honor Me with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce. Remember, that I correct those I love, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights. Do not lose sight of common sense and discernment, but hang on to them. I will keep your foot from being caught in a trap. I bless the home of the upright.

Son, pay attention to what I say by listening very carefully to My words. Don’t lose sight of them, but let them penetrate deep into your heart, and you will BE ENCOURAGED!!

Daily Devotional

Son, what a horrible thing to stand before Me and have My Father say, “Let the record show that this man is a failure.” So follow the steps of good men who have gone ahead of you and stay on the path of the righteous. Look at the path of My servant David, who obeyed My commands and followed Me with all his heart and always did whatever I commanded. When you walk My path for your life you will understand what is right, just and fair; you will know the right way to go. When you speak, tell those who will listen how you are looking forward to My coming. Remember I love you and have chosen you to be with Me forever. I am the One who will rescue you from the terrors of the coming judgment.

I shield anyone who walks with integrity, but fools despise My wisdom and discipline. These fools rush to commit evil, not knowing that greed and their love of money will rob them of life. Remember that to fear Me is the foundation of true knowledge. So listen to what I say, and treasure My commands. Then you will understand what it means to fear Me, and you will gain knowledge of My Father.

I called to these foolish people who love this world more than Me, but they wouldn’t come. I reached out to them, but they paid no attention. It has made Me furious! Therefore, they must eat the bitter fruit of living their own way.

Son, keep being faithful at your work, keep on doing My loving deeds, and never give up the enduring hope you have, because I am with you. Your purpose is to please Me, not people. I alone examine the motives of your heart. Therefore, live your life in a way that My Father would consider worthy. For He is the One who gives you hope and joy, and will reward you with a crown as you stand before Him!

Daily Devotional

Son, remember I am coming soon, so don’t worry about anything. Instead, pray about everything. Tell Me what you need, and thank Me for all I have done. Then you will experience My peace, which exceeds anything you can understand. My peace will guard your heart and mind as you live on this earth.  So fix your thoughts on what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Forget the past and look forward to what lies ahead. I will take your weak mortal body and change it into a glorious body like Mine; so stay true to Me.

Lord, I can see what You have done for me and my family. I have no confidence in my own flesh. Everything is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing You. For I want to know and experience You. Help me to learn how to be content with what I have, and learn the secret of living victoriously in every situation. You told me that I can do everything through You. You promised to take care of me and my family, and supply all of our needs. When I discover Your words, I devour them. They are my joy and my heart’s delight.

Son, soon people of this world will ask you to plead on their behalf because of the trouble and distress that is coming. Whatever happens, rejoice in Me; for you are My spokesman. Speak My words with confidence, then you will be an influence, but if you do not speak My words then they will influence you!

Son, tell your nation that their leaders have abandoned Me and have turned their back on Me. Therefore, I will raise My fist to destroy them. I am tired of giving them another chance; for sin runs rampant in your nation. I have removed My protection and peace from them. I have taken away My unfailing love and My mercy. They will ask you, “Why have I said such terrible things against them? What have we done to deserve such treatment? What is our sin?” Then you must tell them that it is because they are unfaithful to Me. They worship other gods and serve them, and have abandoned Me and My word. They stubbornly follow their own evil desires and refuse to listen to Me. Now I will show them My power; now I will show them My might, and at last they will know and understand that I am the Lord.”

Lord, You are my strength and fortress, my refuge in the day of trouble! You always keep Your promises. You help the fallen and lift those bent beneath their loads. You are close to all who call on You, and You hear our cries for help and rescue us. There is no God like You in all of heaven above or on the earth below. You show unfailing love to all who walk in wholehearted devotion. Give me the desire to do Your will in everything and to obey all Your commands. Thank You for Your faithfulness!

Daily Devotional

Lord, I am fearful of what is coming, and I am losing hope. So Let me hear of Your unfailing love each morning for I am trusting You. Show me where to walk, and teach me to do Your will. May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing.

Son, don’t be intimidated in any way by evil, and remember the way of satan is to make you feel insecure and tell you that you are inferior. When you believe him you will do the opposite of what I have planned for your life.

For I have given you the privilege of trusting Me, and the privilege of suffering for Me. So don’t be selfish, and try to impress others. Be humble, and think of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others. I am working in you, by giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Me. Do everything without complaining and arguing, and hold firmly to My word.

Son, what I am going to tell you is not to bring fear in your life, but to help you to be prepared.

Because your leader’s mouths are full of lies and they refuse to listen to me – their wickedness has caught up with them. I now will remember all their wickedness and will punish them. When they pray I will pay no attention. For war, famine, and disease is coming.

Some of My pastors are not preparing their flocks for what is coming. For they hope for peace, but no peace is coming until My Son returns.

Lord, I am certain that You began a good work in me, and will continue Your work until it is finally finished on the day when Your Son returns. So what really matters is that I live a pure and blameless life. For I am a citizen of heaven, therefore I must conduct myself in a manner worthy of this citizenship. I know that when Your people stand together with one spirit and one purpose, there is joy.

Daily Devotional

Son, tell My people to be careful how they live. They are to live their lives with love, by following My example. They are not to take part in worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose it. They are not to live like fools, but make the most of every opportunity.

Tell them that when they sing spiritual songs and make music to Me in their hearts, that this brings confusion to those who oppose them. Tell them they need to be thankful for everything.

Son, tell fathers to discipline and instruct their children that I have given them; that they should show them by example how to do My will with all their heart. Be men who stand against evil, by being men of truth. Show your children My peace; that comes when they are fully prepared for what’s coming. Be men with faith who know how to block the arrows of the evil one. Show them that My word is powerful, that it has the power to cut out any wickedness in one’s life. Show them that you are men of prayer, and that you pray all the time and on every occasion; that as men of persistent prayer you will be alert.

Son, tell your nation, that if they obey Me and do whatever I command, then they will be My people, and I will be their God. But the leaders of your nation have said that I do not know  what’s ahead for them! So do not trust your leaders, no matter how pleasantly they speak. For any nation who refuses to obey Me will be uprooted and destroyed. I, the Lord, have spoken!

Lord take control of what I say, and help me know when I should speak. I look to You for help, for You are my refuge. Keep me from the traps they have set for me; from the snares of those who do wrong. Thank You that You allow me to tell You all my troubles. When I am overwhelmed, You alone know the way I should go. You are all I really want in life.

Daily Devotional

Son, I want to talk with you about your grandsons and My plan for their lives. Tell them I am Lord and there is no one like Me! My name is full of power, and I am the only true God. I am the living God and the everlasting King! The whole earth trembles at My anger. Nations cannot stand up to My wrath. I made the earth by My power, and I preserve it by My wisdom. With My understanding I stretched out the heavens.

Tell them to be courageous and be men who stand up for the truth! For I have given them the privilege of telling others about the endless treasures available to them in My Son. Because of their faith in Me, they can come boldly and confidently into My presence.

Their roots will grow deep in their love for My word and My word will keep them strong. Then they will begin to understand how wide, how long, how high, and how deep My love is for them.  For My mighty power is at work within them to accomplish infinitely more than they might ask or think.

So tell your grandsons to lead a life worthy of their calling, for they have been called by Me. They need to be humble, gentle, and patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults. They need to do everything they can to keep themselves united with My Spirit. Then they will not be influenced with lies so clever they sound like the truth. Instead, they will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more to be like My Son. They will be successful in all they do and wherever they go.

Lord, thank You for Your thoughts and promises about my grandsons. For You know when they sit down or stand up. You know their thoughts. You see them when they travel and when they rest at home. You know everything they do and will do. You know what they are going to say even before they say it. Point out anything in them that offends You, and lead them along the path of everlasting life.

Kingdom Thinking – Part 19

Matthew 11:12 “From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it.”

Kingdom thinking will embrace the entrepreneurs. Basic definition of an entrepreneur: someone who organizes a venture (business or otherwise) and assumes the risk for it. In other words, an entrepreneur for the sake of the Kingdom of God is ready to take risks. So many of us want to play it safe and if we sense that everyone else is with us on it we might dare to step out. Not so with an entrepreneur. He sees what needs to be done whether or not anyone else is stepping out to see it done, or to do it with him.

A survey was taken among 50 octogenarians (those over 80 years of age). They all had one thing in common. They had been saved for 50 years or more. When asked if they could live their lives over again what they would have done differently, most of them said that they would have taken more risks. What a testimony!

The Gospel will advance through (might I say) entrepreneurs who are willing to leave all and go – according to the command given them by God. They are willing to set out for a venture to see the Gospel spread throughout the world into every people group.

They are men/women whose faith is a conviction and not merely a preference. They are men and women of the same caliber as Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego who did not bend their knee to Nebuchadnezzar’s statue that he had built, and then were willing to go into the burning furnace for their conviction. This was the result with the king: “Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants! They trusted in him and defied the king’s command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God. Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be cut into pieces and their houses be turned into piles of rubble, for no other god can save in this way.” Daniel 3:28-29

They are men and women like William Carey, father of the Modern Missionary Movement.” When he was told to sit down and be quiet about converting the heathen he spoke even louder not only with words, but actions, and off to India he went. Forty years later he had started institutions of higher learning, translated the Bible into six Indian languages: Bengali, Oriya, Marathi, Hindi, Assamese and Sanskrit as well as portions of the Bible into 29 other languages. He also brought in a printing press and established a newspaper as well as getting the government to outlaw practices like infanticide and suttee (in which Hindu widows would immolate, sacrificing themselves on their husband’s funeral pyre).

Was William Carey an apostle, entrepreneur, prophet, etc.? Perhaps he was all, but one thing was for certain; that he was a man with Kingdom thinking. He was a man who saw that “the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it.” Matthew 1:12 (KJV)

We all have a purpose from God, and faithfulness is what God’s people are crowned and rewarded for. We need to have “kingdom thinking” to fulfill our purpose.
