This morning in my quiet time, I read about a king of Judah. It was a time in the history of Judah when the spirit of Jezebel was in control through her daughter Athaliah. It is said in 2 Chronicles 23 that the priest Jehoiada decided to act. He had seen enough of this queen’s evil, how she destroyed the whole royal family of princes in the house of Judah so that she would reign, all except little Joash who was hidden with his nurse so that Athaliah could not kill him too. Just like her mother Jezebel, she lied and killed her way to power. Jehoiada acted against Athaliah in her seventh year of reigning; nothing was going to stop him from doing what needed to be done for Judah and for Joash to reign. Jehoiada got with all the ‘heads’ in Judah (army, Levites and family heads) and they all met in Jerusalem with Jehoiada and made a covenant that they would all work together to anoint Joash as king of Judah and put Athaliah to death and tear down her Baal temple with its altars and idols throughout the land. The outcome: “All the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was calm, because Athalia had been slain with the sword.” 2 Chronicles 23:21
Today in America we have a jezebel-spirit over our country, and it is time for the ‘heads’ in our land to take courage and stand up against it, just like Jehoiada did when “enough was enough.” Just like then, there were great risks in doing the right thing. Today it might mean the loss of a church tax exempt status. It might mean that you are labeled “politically incorrect” or “intolerant” or “a danger to society,” whatever!
How can you recognize the jezebel-spirit?
- women want to be in control
- babies and children are sacrificed
- false worship of false gods; all kinds of idols in the land
- deception at work behind what is seen by the public
- ruin and death to anyone who tries to get in the way
In the Lord’s letter to His church in Thyatira – Revelation 2:20-25 (paraphrased) the Lord warns His people: I have this complaint against you; you are permitting that woman Jezebel who calls herself a prophetess to lead my servants astray from serving Me. She teaches them to commit sexual sin. I gave her time to repent, but she refuses to turn away from her immorality. Therefore, I will throw her on a bed of suffering, and those who commit adultery with her will suffer greatly unless they repent and turn away from her evil deeds. I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am the one who searches out the thoughts and intentions of every person. And I will give to each of you whatever you deserve. But to those of you who have not followed her teaching, the depths of Satan’s secrets for her teachings, I will ask nothing more of you except that you hold on tightly to what you have from Me – until I come.
Today we need to understand the spirit that is over our country and that our ‘leaders’ (commanders, pastors and fathers) need to stand up and say, “It is time to act and do what is right in the eyes of the Lord, even if we lose something in the process. The sacrifice will be worth it.”
WE DO NOT CHANGE THE SCRIPTURES TO MEET THE CULTURE OF TODAY, BUT RATHER WE CHANGE THE CULTURE TO THE STANDARD OF GOD’S HOLY SCRIPTURES.
